The arrival
February 27th, 2006Well, here we finally meet Imelda. Obviously Igor forgot to tell Stewart one crucial detail.
One thing that I experimented with this strip was having four panels, but not having them all be exactly the same size. Having four equal panels is typcially how strips like this are designed, and it’s a standard that works well. However, I just wanted to bend the rules a little. I also dropped the border on the second panel to give it a greater feeling of expansiveness.

Apparently, some people are having trouble leaving a comment. Also, the calendar seems to be broken. I’m working on fixing it!

Never mind, the calendar is fine. I’m not sure why the comments aren’t working, though.

Very cool. Very professional; very silly! It was nice to be educated in cartoon lingo (such as window sizes, type style and border consistencies). Who knew?
Anyway, this was only strip that did not make sense to me. Does Imelda activate at the mention of the word “witch”? I don’t get it; or is that the point?
BTW, my comments were not working because of an operator malfunction.

I like the dotted lines to indicate an aside, or a whisper. I don’t recall ever seeing that before, but it’s pretty easy to pick up. Perhaps slightly shorter dashes would add the visual feeling of softness to the intended auditory translation… or maybe I’m an idiot. It’s really hard to say some days.

Did you get the name IGGY from Andrew Wilson?

Whoa- hey Steve. Talk about long time no see. Good to hear from you! Thanks for stopping by the site! If you want, drop me a line at the email address on the right.

Oh, and to answer your question: sort of. I came up with the name Igor for the character, but I wanted a nickname for him that his sister would use. “Iggy” sort of popped in my head; maybe it’s because of knowing Andrew “Iggy” Wilson. It worked so I used it. Though she has yet to use it again – Dr. Madcackle doesn’t really like it when she calls him that.
