A beginning and an end
Thursday, August 24th, 2006Well, this is the first full color “Mad Cackle” strip that I’ve done. However, it will also be the last “Mad Cackle” strip that I do.This decision kind of crept up on me, though in the back of my head I knew it was coming. I didn’t seriously think that “Mad Cackle” was the cartoon that I would retire with — it was just my first try. I stuck with it for six months, which is better than I thought I would do.I feel like in terms of the art, I’ve learned quite a bit and have grown a lot. All you have to do is look at my first strip to see that. I haven’t regularly cartooned so intensely since my sophomore year of college, and I’ve enjoyed the act of drawing immensely. However, it is the writing that has NOT grown as I would have liked. If anything, the strip kind of hit a high point about two months ago, and I’ve been banging my head against the wall since. The writing has been, as best as I can put it, “oatmeal”. I’ve drawn just over 50 strips, and I could probably count on one hand the ones that I’m really proud of in terms of writing. So where do I go? I’m not so sure, but that excites me. I have some ideas — Mad Cackle is far from the last strip that I will draw. In fact, I have a new idea that may even see the light of day fairly soon (so stay tuned!). I may play with the idea of finding a collaborator who would work on the writing. So, please do keep checking back here, as I will post new cartoon ideas, artwork, or anything else that I’m working on.After all, that’s why it’s ChipCullen.com.
