On the subject of originality…

Everyone gets their ideas from somewhere- whether they know it or not. I came up with the “reanimated frog” idea, only later to realize that it was pretty similar to that frog from the WB. I felt it would be a good opportunity to address that similarity at the same time that I make fun of Igor’s origins.

I’ve always acknowledged that the seed for the idea for “Mad Cackle” was Young Frankenstein. However, I like to think that the type of jokes and the style of humor is quite different from Mr. Brooks’ masterpiece. I’ve tried very hard to make it my own.

Another thing that I’ve been working on has been character consistency. In some of my earlier strips, the characters were not rendered in a terribly consistent way. I’ve been practicing drawing the characters over and over- even solidifying the character design as I went. I’ve also taken pains to measure the spacing between objects from one panel to the next, so they look like the same thing. When it works, the audience doesn’t even notice. I thought this strip was a good example of my progress, but I just want to know what you all think.
